Abstract

The study was carried out support the development of children and support to families that were attending libraries. The research was designed according to “mixed research design” in which both quantitative and qualitative data were handled together. In order to collect the data General Information Form, Needs Assessment Form, and form for Librarians named as Family Education and Evaluating Studies carried out with Children were applied. In the research descriptive analysis, chi-square and Fisher-Freeman-Halton Exact test were used to analyze the data in the study. According to the results, the topics that parents preferred the most were; reward-punishment, talking with the child, communication with the child, communication between/among siblings and sibling jealousy. There were statistically significant differences in terms of children’s age in mother’s replies about the topics of nutrition, selecting/making toys and playing with children, sexual education, relationships between/among siblings and sibling jealousy. When the opinions of the librarians about the study and the trainings carried out were examined, it was determined that they were satisfied with both. While there were no difficulties or problems in the six of the libraries, there were some in two of them regarding transportation and keeping children quiet during some activities. Librarians presented their suggestions on the dissemination of the study and the trainings. The study should be expanded with more libraries in the future.
