The Impacts of Technology in Libraries: An Approach on the Aspect of Information Sources

Abstract

Technology which develops so fast generates innovations and changes in every aspects of life also affect libraries very closely. Together with the technological developments the environment of recorded information is being changed and new information sources have emerged. The purpose of study is to evaluate the impact of technology in libraries in terms of information sources. In this context, primarily technology and then relationship between invention of writing and the emergence of the library have been defined. In addition, this study includes the information about papyrus and parchment which are used since the ancient libraries, then printed sources, microforms, graphic resources, audio-visual sources and electronic sources. Finally, the topic is evaluated and general the impact of electronic sources in libraries is emphasized.
