Abstract

In this paper the concept of publication drain is asserted by drawing inspiration from another concept as brain drain. In addition to that, throughout the paper the losses caused by this migration and facts behind of this phenomenon are also evaluated. The number of articles which has Turkish origin and which are published in foreign journals indexed in Web of Science (WoS) are token as case. Moreover, in this study to compare the papers in both national and international journals the publications which are in the Turkish Academic Network and Information Centre (ULAKBIM) national databases are also examined. As a result of research it is revealed that there is an ongoing increase in the number of papers migrated to foreign journals and 62% of total scientific articles produced in Turkey were published in foreign journals.
