Expectations of the Students of the Department of Information Management on Organizational Culture in the Workplace

Organizational culture is created through the interaction of the elements composing the organization, and its shapes the organizational performance. Personnel plays a role in the processes of creating and transferring the culture. The transferable feature of the culture produces positive results when appropriate organizational culture is adopted. Therefore, the compatibility of the current organizational culture with the expectations of the new employees is significant for the organization and employees. Within the scope of this research, it aims to identify the expectations of the 4th-grade students studying the Department of Information Management in universities within Ankara on organizational culture in the workplace. Responses were sought for the questions such as what kind of an organizational culture participants want to be involved in, which components will affect their perspective towards the organization and what the characteristics of the organization where they want to work. In the research, descriptive method was used and survey technique was adopted. The survey was applied to 101 participants. At the end of the research, it was found out that participants, in their business life, mostly wanted to be involved in an organizational culture that combines cooperative and creative cultures. Practices such as ignoring the creative ideas, imbalance in the distribution of the workload negatively affect the participants’ perspective towards the organization in a highly negative manner.. It has been determined that the participants intend to better reflect their potential in institutions that have a desire and vision for innovation and are open to education and development. The compatibility of the existing culture and the targeted culture in organizations should not be ignored. Participants should be enabled to gain perception and awareness about the organizational culture, organizations should consider the cultural expectations.
